Strangeways Comp & Threadless Comp.

Threadless are hosting another super cool idea for a competition, "I LOVE GEEKS"with only a day to go I'm perhaps pushing it but I'm debating having a go at an entry as a 'couple of hour' kinda brief, it's something I'm gonna try and do tonight, but it's no biggy if not.

Also, Leeds based clubnight Strangeways are hosting a competition for a new poster design, they're after something wacky, random and strange, so again, this should be a good time to have a rationale free attempt at illustration while I can!

Anorak Magazine Competition!

I'm really interested in participating in the Anorak magazine front cover competition, I think it'll be an awesome opportunity to spend time just doodling something super fun and super cute, this will probably come as a relief as the more heavier briefs and competitions start to get underway!

So before I begin to crack on with the entry I decided to have a snoop about on their site etc just to get a better sense of the style of illustration they'll be after!

So colourful and playful, I'm going to have some fun on this one! I'll post ideas up later!

Crafts!

Here's some of the Fox Bunting crafts that have been made so far by Brionny with packaging by myself, lovely stuff if you don't mind me saying!

We also have our first craft stall booked!

Below was some of the first bits made with the prototypes of packaging, they looked cute enough but were definitely missing something! The type was just too overused and perhaps a bit too much for such a  simplistic style of packaging!

So I decided to have a revamp ready for a our crafty debut and redid the packaging! I went for a more subtle use of type, a hand drawn style rather which I think works so much better!

 Super cute cupcake badges!

snip, snip scissor badges!

Bag 'o foxes!

These are just a few prinimalary snaps taken for our blog, I'll post some better ones up later!

Inspired..

by my trip to London over summer and reading through Handmade Nation ( see below) a book on the rise of independent and DIY crafters & designers over the past years, myself and my housemate decided to have a go ourselves, using her skills in craft and mine in print and illustration, we both felt we could learn a lot from each other and use this to our benefit.

I also wanted to put my illustrations into a bigger context that what I've previously done, as well as experimenting in a field of design I'd never experienced before.

So soon we began illustrating and crafting, Brionnys style of craft seemed to go perfectly with my style of illustration, I don't normally base my illustrations on such basic vector styles so it was a different style for me to work with!

Here's some of the initial art & crafts produced!

These fox styles are what will be turned into super cute crafts along with other adorable accessories, going from my illustrations drawn on paper, to print, to craft! Hurrah!

Poster Design over summer!

A few bits of poster design I did over summer, for Unity Day & the Brudenell Social Club, a burlesque event called Hanky Panky, I chose to keep the illustration as the focal point and to keep the two posters the same other than colour for the two events, both the same but just at different venues.

The posters were well received and the promoter was incredibly happy with the turnout of the pieces!
